Legal troubles and being an NFL player go hand in hand. Almost like peanut butter and jelly. So it was no surprise that the Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was being charged with a laundry list of misdemeanors and felonies from a traffic stop in New Jersey.
This past Thursday, the New Jersey prosecutor announced that it would be reviewing all charges are brought against the wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans. The charges stem from an arrest that with me last week in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Kenny Britt, who was in his New Jersey hometown, was caught going over 70 miles an hour in a 55 mile lower speed zone. When police tried to stop the wide receiver he lead them on a police chase that had reported speeds of 75 miles an hour and up. Once caught the police booked him for alluding an officer, hindering apprehension and obstructing the function of the government.
Kenny Britt appeared before a New Jersey courtroom and entered no plea to the charges that were brought against him. Both him and his attorney have failed to comment on the incident.
The New Jersey prosecutor will review the charges and decide if there’s legal standing to pursue a court case against Kenny Britt. Should the prosecutor decide to go forward the wide receiver Tennessee Titans could face a maximum of five years per charge, or a minimum of no jail time and probation or suspension of license.
Kenny Britt has been known for his wild driving in the past. He has taken police on several high-speed chases and even been arrested for outstanding traffic tickets. This new charge is no surprise for the fast running wide receiver.

Mike Munchak
Generally when new coaches come to an NFL team they have a little bit of time to work with the players see what potential there NFL roster has. However, the recent NFL lockout has made it incredibly difficult for NFL coaches to assess their roster and see what potential the players have.
The latest coaching change which was that of the Tennessee Titans appointing coach Mike Munchak to the position of head coach. Mike Munchak was originally the offensive line coach but promoted this year to head coach after the 2010 season.
Being unable to work with the NFL roster in person has presented a new challenge to the new coach. With the 2011 NFL draft on the horizon is hard for the new Tennessee Titans coach to know exactly what holes to fill for the team. Without being able to see the players play in front of him Mike Munchak needs to make educated guesses as to what the weaknesses are on his team and where new talent could really help out.
There are two things that are on Mike Munchak’s side. First, unlike a brand-new coach Mike Munchak is already familiar with the offensive line for the Tennessee Titans and can use that to make decisions in the draft. Second, Mike Munchak is doing what all the other coaches are doing during the lockout and relying upon videotaped games to see where weaknesses are on the team and what new players could benefit the team based off of last year’s performance and where it looks like they could use extra strength.
It’s a new way of picking 2011 picks but due to the lockout coaches need to adapt in order to prepare for the upcoming season.

When it comes to the NFL draft teams will usually pick a quarterback for their first choice. However, the Detroit Lions have already stated that they will not be picking a quarterback for their 13th overall pick in the draft.
General manager Martin Mayhew revealed very little about what the Detroit Lions plan on doing in the NFL draft. In fact, he even said he found it amusing to read all the football reports that say whether or not the Detroit Lions will choose a certain type of player. He finds these reports money because even he himself does not know who the they will choose or won’t choose the NFL draft so how could someone who isn’t even associated with the team know who is going to be picked.
Despite not knowing who he plans on picking in the NFL draft, Martin Mayhew does know that it won’t be a quarterback. Mayhew does believe that they will probably pick whoever is the best player left when the 13th pick rolls around.
Football experts believe that not choosing a quarterback could be grave mistake by the Detroit Lions. Two years ago the Detroit Lions became the first team in NFL history to go 0 and 16, and not win a single regular season game. This season was a little better with six wins and 10 losses but experts believe that a change in quarterback could be the answer to the team’s woes.
Experts and fans will just have to wait until Thursday’s NFL draft to see exactly who the team goes for and chooses to make a new Detroit Lions.

Lawrence Taylor
After pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual misconduct with an underage girl, Lawrence Taylor was officially declared a low level sex offender by the New York court system.
Lawrence Taylor back in May was accused of having improper sexual conduct involving an underage girl. Police reports show that Lawrence Taylor paid the teenage girl, who was only 16 at the time, to perform sexual acts in a Rockland County hotel. The teenage girl refused to admit to allegations that she might have been a prostitute, but instead said she did it for the money and because of who Lawrence Taylor was.
Lawrence Taylor’s wife had spoken publicly about the incident in claims that Lawrence Taylor gave the 16-year-old girl money because she was going through hard times. Both Lawrence Taylor and his wife adamantly deny that he was patronizing a prostitute and claim the girl was out to seek revenge or fame.
Even though Lawrence Taylor claims not to have known about the age of the girl at the time of the incident, he pled guilty to one count of sexual misconduct and plead guilty to patronizing a prostitute in the third degree. Both charges are misdemeanors and only resulted in a $2000 fine and six years probation.
With the guilty plea the New York courts were able to declare Lawrence Taylor a sex offender. Lawrence Taylor is initially registered in the level 1 sex offender and which is the lowest classification of sex offenders. He will be required to register in the states that he lives in but due to the low level of classification his photo and address will not be posted to any sex offender online registries.

The NFL lockout has prevented many NFL players from being able to participate in team events and practices. However, as the saying goes idle hands are the devil’s workshop and since the lockout was in effect on March 12 over 10 NFL players have been arrested.
Players who have recently had a brush with the law include:
- William Moore of the Atlanta Falcons who was arrested in April for speeding at extreme speeds, failure to appear in court and driving with a suspended license.
- Kenny Britt of the Tennessee Titans who was arrested April for alluding police officers, lying to a public employee, hindering apprehension and obstructing the function of a governmental employee.
- Mike Vrabel of the Kansas City Chiefs who was arrested for theft.
- Louis Murphy of the Oakland Raiders who was arrested for playing his music too loud.
- Aqib Talib of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
- Jason Peters of the Philadelphia Eagles who was arrested for violating the city’s noise ordinance and of resisting arrest.
- Johnny Jolly of the Green Bay Packer’s was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with the pure intent to distribute to others.
- Bryan McCann of the Dallas Cowboys who was arrested for public intoxication.
- Current free agent, Mario Henderson who was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm after being stopped for playing music too loud.
- Chris Cook of the Minnesota Vikings who had a misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm.
Although the NFL is on a current lockout the VP of labor policy and player development has made it clear that all players will be held to the personal-conduct policy the NFL has in place and suspensions could be possible when the lockout ends.

Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall Stabbed by Wife
This past Friday Miami Dolphins receiver and his wife were involved in a domestic violence dispute which ended Brandon Marshall heading to the hospital and his wife arrested on assault charges.
Friday evening, Michi Nogami-Marshall and Brandon Marshall entered a verbal altercation that ended with Brandon Marshall ending up in the hospital. At the hospital Brandon Marshall told doctors that he had slipped and fallen on a broken vase. However, doctors did not believe this story and reported it to police.
Police entered the home of the family and noted that the evidence did not support the claim that he had slipped and fallen a broken vase. Instead, they found evidence that Michi Nogami-Marshall had actually stabbed him with a kitchen knife which resulted in the injuries.
Saturday Michi Nogami-Marshall was arrested and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and released on $7,500 bail. It is unclear at the time whether or not Brandon will press charges and whether or not Michi has an attorney to represent her.
This is not the first time that both members have been involved in a domestic dispute. In 2009, Brandon Marshall was arrested on smear battery charges from an altercation with his then fiancée Michi Nogami. The charges were dropped when both parties refused to testify in court and prosecutors were required to drop the case.
Brandon Marshall is expected to fully recover from this most recent incident and it will not effect any of his playing. Even though there is a current lockout the Miami Dolphins were able to release a statement wishing Brandon well during these tough family times.

Seattle Seahawks
Despite Matt Hasselbeck’s wishes to stay in Seattle for the upcoming season, it looks like the Seahawks could be on the hunt for a new quarterback. Before the NFL lockout, the Seattle Seahawks were in a unique position. Their main quarterback was officially a free agent and their backup quarterback only started in two regular season games. With this situation it is no surprise that the Seahawks seem to aggressively be going after a quarterback in this season’s draft.
Over the past week, team representatives for the Seattle Seahawks were seen talking to talk all the top quarterbacks that will be present at the NFL draft. There are currently seven top picks for quarterbacks that the Seattle Seahawks can choose from.
In the 2011 draft the Seattle Seahawks will have their first pick as the 25th overall draft pick. The team has been officially quiet on whether or not that selection will be used on a quarterback or on other areas.
Industry experts believe that the Seattle Seahawks could go for a number of picks as their current team roster has many open spaces waiting to be filled. Seattle could go for a quarterback, or a number of positions that have opened up this season in both the offensive and defensive lines. However, with only one contracted quarterback it would be surprising if Seattle didn’t express interest in any of the quarterbacks that are available.
Last year, the Seattle Seahawks were plagued with a number of injuries that caused them to almost miss the playoffs. These injuries are still present and having major backup players they can rely upon would be great for the team.

The NFL negotiations continue for another week. The negotiations between the NFL and the players union was originally supposed to expire at midnight March 3, 2011. However, there are some quick thinking on the part of both sides caused the negotiations to continue into another week.
It was expected that should an agreement between the two sides not be met by midnight the talks would go into a standstill and the NFL as a whole would be put on hold. Both sides on Thursday agreed to an initial 24-hour extension that could be used to cast a vote that would allow the negotiations to continue for a longer period of time.
During the 24-hour extension period which occurred on Friday, March 5 both sides decided to vote on extending the negotiation period for another seven days. This would allow the NFL and the players union to continue to discuss the terms of the negotiation. Is expected that negotiations and mediation will resume promptly on Monday morning and are expected to last until Friday where possible work shortage could occur if no decision is agreed upon.
The negotiations between the Commissioner of the NFL and the NFL Players Association have already lasted 11 straight days in federal mediation and counseling services. Industry experts believe that this possible seven-day extension on the negotiations could be a sign that neither side wants to see a possible work shortage occur in the NFL.
Some of the major issues that are being discussed during the negotiation period include how possible revenues are split between players and owners, the starting salary of rookie players, the desire to extend the football season to 18 games and the need for benefits for retired players. These issues have been hotly debated and neither side has come to an agreement which has resulted in the need for federal mediation.
