Seattle Seahawk Matt Hasselbeck Expresses Interest in Staying With Team for 2011

Posted on April 30, 2011 by No Comments

Matt Hasselbeck has been clean for the Seattle Seahawks for the past nine seasons and is hoping to make his upcoming tenth season one with the same team he has called home. The problem is that Matt Hasselbeck was unable to come to an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks before the NFL league was dissolved a month ago.

The recent NFL lockout has caused many problems with the contract negotiation between Hasselbeck and the Seahawks. One of the biggest problems with the lockout is that the rules could completely change on all parties involved and could cause problems with the contract negotiations.

There have been rumors circulating the Seattle Seahawks have been on the lookout for younger quarterback to replace the aging Matt Hasselbeck. These rumors started as a result of Hasselbeck’s constant injuries last season and the fact that the Seahawks often favored backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst for games of importance.

With the NFL draft on the horizon, many NFL experts believe that the Seattle Seahawks and team coach Pete Carroll could be on the lookout for a fresh quarterback for the team, leaving Hasselbeck looking for a new job.

Matt Hasselbeck has expressed his interest in wanting to stay for 10 season the Seattle Seahawks but with the recent lockout and the high stakes that he was asking for during preliminary contract negotiations could lead the NFL football team to look elsewhere for talent. If that were to happen Matt Hasselbeck has already been quoted as saying that he wouldn’t mind sharing the spotlight with a younger quarterback or even starting on another NFL team for the next season, that is if the NFL can sort out there problems and there is a next season.

Despite Matt Hasselbeck’s wishes to stay in Seattle for the upcoming season, it looks like the Seahawks could be on the hunt for a new quarterback. Before the NFL lockout, the Seattle Seahawks were in a unique position. Their main quarterback was officially a free agent and their backup quarterback only started in two regular season games. With this situation it is no surprise that the Seahawks seem to aggressively be going after a quarterback in this season’s draft.

Over the past week, team representatives for the Seattle Seahawks were seen talking to talk all the top quarterbacks that will be present at the NFL draft.  There are currently seven top picks for quarterbacks that the Seattle Seahawks can choose from.

In the 2011 draft the Seattle Seahawks will have their first pick as the 25th overall draft pick. The team has been officially quiet on whether or not that selection will be used on a quarterback or on other areas.

Industry experts believe that the Seattle Seahawks could go for a number of picks as their current team roster has many open spaces waiting to be filled. Seattle could go for a quarterback, or a number of positions that have opened up this season in both the offensive and defensive lines. However, with only one contracted quarterback it would be surprising if Seattle didn’t express interest in any of the quarterbacks that are available.

Last year, the Seattle Seahawks were plagued with a number of injuries that caused them to almost miss the playoffs. These injuries are still present and having major backup players they can rely upon would be great for the team.

Lions Acquire LB Peterson From Seahawks

Posted on March 14, 2009 by No Comments

The Detroit Lions traded defensive tackle Cory Redding and a fifth round draft pick in this year’s NFL draft to the Seattle Seahawks for linebacker Julian Peterson.  Peterson, who registered 80 or more taclkes in three of the last four seasons, was made expendable by the Seahawks who already have Leroy Hill and Lofa Tatupu under big money contracts for the next few seasons.

If the trade did not happen it was likely that the Seahawks would have released Peterson who refused to take a reduced salary for the 2009 season.  The addition of Peterson to a young and underachieving Lions defense will bring some desperately needed veteran leadership to the team.
