The Eagles Quarterback Quandry

The Philadelphia Eagles have found themselves in serious need of answers this offseason. Last offseason they began with three

starting quarterbacks on their roster. They shipped their starter out and were left with Kevin Kolb, who was to become the starter, and Michael Vick who was the back up. However, things got far more complicated then that. Vick had an amazing season after Kolb got injured and proved that he is a franchise type guy and that he can help the Eagles.
So when it was time to pony up money for him in the offseason they decided on a one year tender as their starter with the franchise tag. This was a smart move for the Eagles but it left the issue of what to do with Kevin Kolb. The young quarterback looked ready to be the starter and still deserves a chance to start .
The Eagles have found themselves now trying to figure out how they make both happy and how they can possibly go without making the wrong choice. On paper the choice is easy to pick Vick. He’s been a great quarterback before and he’s proven in this league. However, he barely played football for three years and he’s also 30 which makes him a liability.
The best play here is to keep Kolb for just one more season. If Vick is a fluke then it will be exposed this season, but if he’s not a fluke then you will know and they can start figuring out what they can get for Kolb. See both the upside and the value for Kolb is higher than Vick but the Eagles would have to strike now if they want to get maximum value for the quarterback, but they are not ready to pull the trigger and they’ll wait.
