Manning Says Goodbye To The Playoffs

Say goodbye to the playoffs, Peyton Manning. It’s been nine long years since Peyton Manning has had to watch the playoffs from home, but this season will be that season for him. With so many other teams in the tough AFC poised to post records of 11 wins or more, Manning and his Colts will fall short even if they manage to run the table. The Colts have long been the resident leaders of the AFC. Between them, the Patriots, and the Steelers there haven’ been many other teams with the impact that Colts have had.

This year Manning finds himself struggling to win ball games and taking a step back as far as the excellence with which he has normally played the position. While Manning looked to be in rare form early on, he has shown wear by making big mistakes and playing a fundamentally unsound position.

The blame, which is almost always heaped on the quarterback alone, should not be all his. While Manning has made poor choices at times he is also playing through a bevy of injuries. He hasn’t had the same core of receivers that he started the season with. Those wide out were guys that Manning had developed a timing and a rhythm with. The only stand out currently is Reggie Wayne and he can’t do it amidst double coverage.

Manning has also lacked a true force at running back. Joseph Addai has been a solid back, but isn’t someone the Colts have felt comfortable running the offense through. There needs to be a better offensive line as well. While the Colts are certainly a better team than they have shown, a weak offensive line will make a bad wide out core lead to the abuse of a quarterback. Say so long to the playoffs.
