As with any organization when the NFL comes to a standstill because of a lockout with labor negotiations it could put hundreds of jobs at risk. The lockout prevents the NFL from having any type of minicamp, workouts during the offseason and any other activity that is remotely related to football. While many teams are requiring their staff members to stop working or take a huge pay cut to make up for the down time, the Oakland Raiders have come up with their own solution to the problem.

The Oakland Raiders have allowed their employees to keep their salary as long as they sell a certain number of season tickets. That might not sound as easy as it looks. Each employee is responsible for selling enough season-tickets that equal 10% of their salary. With ticket prices ranging from $260 to $989 this could be easy or a tough task depending upon how the employee approaches the ticket sales.

While this approach during the lockout might seem unusual it isn’t surprising. The Oakland Raiders were the last in the league when it came to attendance numbers. On average there were only 46,430 people at a game and only had a sold out game one time the whole season. Team officials believe this incentive to sell tickets might encourage people to purchase tickets and make an effort as a whole group to help improve the Oakland Raiders.

However, with the United States in a recession these season tickets are going to be a tough sell for a league that is in a lockout that has no end in sight.

It appears as if NFL players will never learn. After the dozens of former and current NFL players being charged with crimes involving a firearm you would think that if NFL player who was in possession of a firearm would follow all the rules in order to ensure that you didn’t find yourself behind bars. However, obviously Mario Henderson an offensive tackle who is currently a free agent did not get that memo.

This past Thursday morning Mario Henderson was pulled over in Fort Myers, Florida by the police. Police pulled him over because he was playing his music too loudly I which is in direct violation with the noise ordinance in Fort Myers. When police pulled them over they asked him if he was carrying any weapons and Mario Henderson admitted to having a firearm in the car.

Police found a firearm in the center console of the car which labels it as a concealed weapon. Mario Henderson does not hold a concealed firearms permit which would allow him to carry the firearm and also to conceal it. Police immediately took him into custody and charged with carrying a concealed firearm. Police failed to comment on how long of a sentence Mario Henderson could be facing should he be found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon. However, passing collections have ranged from a fine to jail time.

Mario Henderson is known for his four seasons as an offensive tackle with the Oakland Raiders. This past year he was labeled as a free agent and is currently unsigned with any NFL team.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat is reporting that former Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia is likely to sign with the Oakland Raiders as soon as today.

Given the money the Raiders have sunk in to underachieving starter JaMarcus Russell the move is certainly curious, but the 39 year old Garcia has been a winner almost everywhere he has played and could help the Raiders turn their luck around.

No word on whether Garcia would be allowed to compete for the starting job or would start the year as a backup due to Russell’s large contract.
